Barcelona’s COVID-19 outbreak swells; EPL match called off

The number of positive coronavirus infections in the Barcelona squad has risen to ten, putting the club’s return to league play following Spain’s nearly two-week winter break in jeopardy.

The Premier League match between Leicester and Norwich was postponed on Saturday because Norwich did not have the required players due to COVID-19 cases and injuries.

It’s the 17th match in the EPL to be called off in the last month.

The latest illnesses from Barcelona are Sergino Dest, Philippe Coutinho, and Abde Ezzalzouli.

According to the team, they are self-isolating at home and are “in good health”.

Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti, Gavi, Jordi Alba, Alejandro Balde, Clement Lenglet, and Dani Alves tested positive and isolated the club earlier.

Barcelona, who were in seventh position going into Sunday’s match at Mallorca, were similarly decimated by injuries.

Four Real Madrid players – Vinicius Jr., Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, and Eduardo Camavinga – tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, ahead of their match against Getafe on Sunday.

Dest and Vinicius shared images from their excursions to Miami on Instagram during the vacation. Courtside shots from a Miami Heat basketball game and photos with star Jimmy Butler were among them.

Vinicius posted a photo of himself with Heat guard Tyler Herro on his Instagram account. In the images, they were all wearing masks.

The Heat could not reach the NBA’s criteria of eight available players for their game against San Antonio on Wednesday, forcing the game to be rescheduled. Due to a combination of injuries and positive virus testing, Miami had 12 players designated as out.

Because of many coronavirus cases, Angers requested that their home game against Saint-Etienne on January 9 be postponed.

Angers stated 19 confirmed cases were found among their 30-player team, and more than ten of them will not be allowed to play again until January 10. Five more employees have the illness, according to Angers.

Coach Julien Stephan, according to Strasbourg, has the illness but is not showing any symptoms.

Lucas Paqueta, a midfielder for Lyon, said on Instagram that he tested positive for HIV while on vacation in Dubai and is currently undergoing treatment.

Due to COVID-19 procedures, the NBA postponed the Denver Nuggets’ home game against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, hours before the scheduled tipoff.

Doc Rivers, the coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Michael Malone, the coach of the Denver Nuggets, both entered the NBA’s health and safety standards on Thursday.

The NHL was also impacted, with the game between Dallas and Arizona being postponed due to the Stars’ inability to play on Sunday against the Coyotes because of the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.

The Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL) cancelled practise on Thursday after a new set of players tested positive for the virus.

Cornerback Bryce Callahan, cornerback Mike Ford, lineman Bobby Massie, and outside linebacker Stephen Weatherly were later added to the COVID-19 list by the Broncos.
