Virat Kohli held five unknown records in IPL
1.Virat Kohli was the first player to smash sixes on the first two balls of a match in IPL history.
In the 2019 IPL game, when the Royals Challenge Bangalore hosted Rajasthan Royals, the game eventually began with each team having just five to play at the time of the cut-off. The home team started its innings with skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers emerging as the openers.
Varun Aaron launched the proceedings for the Royals with a full-length delivery that Virat sent over the long-off fence. Kohli attempted to hit the next ball over the extra-cover area, but the ball flew for another limit over the third-man fence. For those two sixes in Varun’s bowling, Virat Kohli has become the first player in IPL history hitting sixes on the first two balls of a match.
2.Win against 11 teams as captain
Virat Kohli is frequently blamed for his disappointing record as a captain. He does, however, hold a remarkable captaincy record inside the IPL in terms of winning. He’s been leading his team to win in at least one match against all 11 teams. Just two captains have played a game against more than ten different opponents in IPL history.
Gautam Gambhir has won as captain in this league against a record number of 12 opponents. He played for securing both Delhi and Kolkata franchises, which helped Gambhir to top the list. In reality, Gambhir captained against 13 different teams, the 13th side being the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
3.The only player scoring 50 in a game
Virat Kohli hit his third half-century IPL 2017. Still, there was little cheer for the Royal Challengers skipper in Bangalore as his team’s batting floundered again, this time against That Pune Supergiant at the MCA Stadium.
Virat Kohli had criticized his players heavily as they ran from one batting failure to another, leading to another substantial loss against the IPL team led by Steve Smith.
He walked the talk, scoring 55 off 48 balls, but Virat Kohli managed to hit just four boundaries, and a six as Rising Pune Supergiant dried the fours and sixes. Still, Kohli showed the motive he had talked of, keeping one end up until he dismissed in the 18th over as one batsman dropped at the other end after another.
The RCB skipper did not have any encouragement as he took up the fight to meet a modest 158-run target with the team all but out of the qualifying course.
4.Virat Kohli became the second batsman in IPL history to hit 5000 runs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli became the second batsman in IPL history to hit 5000 runs. Kohli achieved the benchmark in the 2019 IPL Seventh Game against Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
5.Youngest Captain in IPL
Around a decade ago, we would have ignored the very notion of someone bringing Sachin Tendulkar’s legacy forward. Since Virat Kohli stepped into the Indian cricketing world, however, he’s stunned one and all with his batting abilities.
He has not only surpassed the records of Sachin but also has more than 20,000 international runs to his name. He has also made a mark with his leadership qualities, in addition to his batting skills. He had left an indelible impression even as a teenager in leading the U19 team to glory, which then led many industry veterans to expect captaincy potential within him.
Then it was hardly shocking when the Bangalore Royal Challengers wanted him to take over as early as 2011, and he was only 22 years old. Halfway into the 2011 edition, when Daniel Vettori got a bad injury, Kohli led the side for three games, out of which the team won 2. Though he wasn’t in his best form as a batsman back then, one could predict that he would be the RCB franchise’s future.
