A trademark licensing agreement has been signed between Betsson-owned sportsbook operator Tonybet and Russia-based bookmaker 1xBet, giving Tonybet exclusive permission to use the UK trademark 1xBet.
Under the agreement, in Great Britain, Tonybet offers gambling products using the name and imagery of 1xBet but under its license. Tonybet has already registered with the Gambling Commission on the domain 1xbet.uk.
1xBet previously used the license of FSB Technology to work on a white label agreement. However, a UK newspaper The Sunday Times alleged in August 2019 claimed it was advertising its brand on banned pages.
During this probe, the UK-facing site of 1xBet was taken offline, and a review of FSB ‘s license was initiated by the Gambling Commission resulting in settlement of £634,000.
While 1xBet said at the time that it was working to secure a full market gambling license, a company spokesman said that the operator had not determined that Britain was not their primary market.
1xbet has ambitious plans to continue our international expansion. Still, at this point, the UK is not a key market for the group. Yet, they are happy with the deal and agree that it was the correct decision to sell the 1XBet UK brand to TonyBet, which is locally controlled and can benefit from owning and running a truly global gaming group’s UK trademark.
As the 1xBet brand name returns to the British market, Tonybet will be responsible for all market activities.
