The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 scheduled to take place this year in Australia was officially postponed after the ICC board virtually met Monday.
The global event was expected to take place from October 18 to November 15. Still, the cricket board of the country expressed its unwillingness to host the major tournament in the state of Victoria amid the second wave of COVID-19 events.
Because of the uncertainty about when hosting a major sporting event with full stadiums will be safe again, the International Cricket Council ( ICC) said it would continue to assess the impact of COVID-19 before making a final decision.
The schedule for the Men’s T20 World Cup:
- ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021: October to November 2021 with the final on November 14 2021
- ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022: October to November 2022 with the final on November 13 2022
- ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 India: October to November 2023 with the final on November 26 2023
The 13th Indian Premier League ( IPL) version is expected to be hosted by the UAE. The competition was only possible if the scheduled ICC T20 World Cup was postponed, said a member of the Apex Council’s Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI).
BCCI is also looking at a 5 to 6 weeks shortened window between September and early November for IPL 2020.
The BBCI had a domestic cricket discussion, but at the moment, the organization are looking at the situation since no decision can be taken until the government gives clearance. BBCI need to run a players training camp, and they can’t go to NCA as Bengaluru is witnessing an increase in COVID cases.
