Soumya & Taskin Auctioned Bat & Ball for Taka 850,000
Bangladeshi batsman Soumya Sarkar and pace bowler Taskin Ahmed effectively auctioned their bat and ball on Sunday night to collect funds for those afflicted by the coronavirus pandemic. Soumya’s bat had been priced for Taka 450,000 when Taskin had Taka 400,000 for his hit. All Soumya and Taskin were present during the live auction on Facebook and said their primary goal was to encourage people to come to the assistance of others during the critical period of the coronavirus outbreak.
Soumya ‘s bat auctioned was used to strike Bangladesh’s fastest-ever test ton last year during the Bangladesh tour of New Zealand. In 2017, Taskin auctioned the ball that had earned him a hat trick against Sri Lanka. A cricket fan from Saudi Arabia and another from Kuwait made strong bids for the mementos, but the host of the live show declared that the local bank had finally come out on top. For the time being, the bank had agreed to stay anonymous.
Taskin mentioned during the Facebook live that the hat-trick ball is very special to him as well as every five-wicket haul and he noticed people had come forward with their favorite thing. Thus, he decided to come forward with one of his favorite things too to aid the coronavirus situation. Soumya repeated the same thought, saying that he had a number of memories attached to it, since he had scored his maiden Test 100 against New Zealand. Soumya said that a century is a big thing for a batsman. He was practicing the night before the game against New Zealand and his sponsor gave him two bats where he used one of them during the gameplay on the following day.
