Several senior cricketers of Pakistan expected to be removed from the central contract list
In the new central contracts to be announced on Wednesday by the Pakistan Cricket Board, several senior cricketers including former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Aamir will either be removed or demoted.
A source in the PCB told PTI that Misbah-ul-Haq, head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq, and Wasim Khan, chief executive, had submitted the final list of contract players to the chairman Ehsan Mani for approval. The source mentioned that, “Today, both of them have confirmed the final list, and submitted to the chairman.”
Wasim said the board decided to announce the new central contracts earlier this year to end any uncertainty among players that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has generated. He said the board wanted players to feel relaxed, and realize that the current global economic crisis would not affect their finances. The board usually announces the new central contracts in July.
The source reported that the new contracts would be issued to new players such as Naseem Shah, Abid Ali and Mohammad Hasnain in place of Wahab, Aamir, Fakhar Zaman and a several other players such as Usman Shinwari and Hasan Ali.
The source told the media, “The idea is to promote and reward the new players who have performed well for Pakistan and hold some senior players out of contract because they are not willing to participate in test cricket.”
