Mushfiq Strives to Boost Squad Efficiency in Away Tests
Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim claims that the Test side has the potential to strengthen themselves and reach the top six in the ranking but acknowledges that they have to perform well in the away series in order to accomplish the feat.
The Tigers are ninth in the top 10 test sides and have just 55 ranking marks, two points lower than Afghanistan (57). But because the Afghans have only played three tests so far, they are not yet in the list. Among the three Tests, Afghanistan beat Bangladesh last year, with a massive margin of 224 runs in Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Apart from the thrashing against the Afghans, the Tigers have lost four Tests in 2019 – two against New Zealand and two against India – and all of those defeats were inside the range. The last test played by Bangladesh was against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2020, and the Tigers even lost the innings lead. Six loses in as many Tests definitely demonstrate that Bangladesh still has a lot to change in the longer edition, and that’s what Mushfiq said while talking on facebook live on Thursday afternoon.
He mentioned that he feels that they have a lot to achieve as a squad in Test cricket. They’ve been playing Test cricket for 20 years and still, despite getting some strong players over the years, They have yet to achieve the target. He said that during the last few years the team have done well in the Tests, particularly playing at home. In the last few years, the success graph in the home series should display that the wicket keeper said. He believes that the improvement should be team-wise and should not concentrate on individual performance in Tests. They’ve got to reach at least the top six in the Test list and they have got the potential to break into the top six, so they need to work hard.
Mushfiqur Rahim said that they need to continue the cycle of enhancing their success in the Test Championship. The team had begun to prepare and they’re set to field a few games at home against the likes of Australia, New Zealand and the West Indies. They had high expectations against such opponents, because they have done well against these major teams in home conditions in recent years. Although, the game has been halted owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
