[IPL]- Before his last IPL season, this is what Andre Russell would tell Shah Rukh Khan
All-rounder Andre Russell has revealed that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wants to play for the Kolkata-based franchise until he retires from the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a franchise interview, Andre Russell said he’d let Shah Rukh Khan and the KKR staff know about his decision before setting out for the franchise to play his final game. “I’d say, ‘Listen, Shah Rukh, all the KKR staff, all of them. That’s going to be my last IPL and the last home game to play in Kolkata,” Russell said.
The all-rounder of the West Indies said he wants to experience the same feeling as players in big leagues when they retire from the game and wave goodbye to the crowd like English Premier League look.
“Such as players in major (football) leagues as the English Premier League or Basketball (NBA) retired from the sport say ‘okay, this is my last game’ and wave goodbye to the crowd – I think I’d love to be in KKR until that moment in my career,” Russell added.
Russell won last year’s IPL’s most valuable player award, but the 32-year-old said he wants to win the KKR IPL trophy.
“I’ve been at KKR for six seasons now, and I love every bit-having the MVP award, and it’s all good, but I want more. I need the cup too, and I’m also hoping we’ll be able to get the IPL this year so that we can become the Champions,” Russell said.
Russell smashed 510 runs in 14 games in 2019 and also picked up 11 wickets, but his all-rounder heroics were not enough to drive KKR through to the play-offs.
