IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals replaces Jason Roy with Daniel Sams
Jason Roy, England opener has opted out of the IPL 2020 which will start in September in the UAE due to personal reasons. This week, the right-hander picked up a side strain and was already ruled out of the T20I series at home against Pakistan.
The media reported that the Delhi Capitals will replace Jason Roy with Australia’s fast bowler Daniel Sam. Earlier, the franchise replaced another Englishman Chris Woakes, with Anrich Nortje from South Africa.
Jason Roy, who strikes in the T20’s at 144.67, made his IPL debut in 2017 with Gujarat Lions. In 2018, he moved to Delhi Capitals. But the strokeplayer was only able to manage one fifty in eight matches over two seasons. The only highlight is the unbeaten 91 against Mumbai Indians.
Death overs specialist Daniel Sams comes on the back of an outstanding Big Bash League for Sydney Thunders side last season. He’d ended up with 30 wickets to catch the attention of the national selectors.
Currently, he is with the Australian side for the limited-overs series which is held in the UK.
Regarding joining Delhi Capitals, Daniel Sams said that the IPL is a massive platform for every cricketer and back home, every year they all follow the tournament extremely closely. He feels privileged to be part of this year’s edition, and he is grateful to the Delhi management for giving him this chance. He can’t wait to join the rest of the squad in the UAE.
