India’s tour to Sri Lanka which was originally scheduled to take place in June-July, was officially called off. On Thursday, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed the development in a statement.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has conveyed the decision to the Sri Lankan board that the series, consisting of 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches, will not be feasible due to the prevailing conditions caused by the COVID-19.
As mentioned by the BCCI in the statement, “Although BCCI remains committed to the FTP and towards its members, it’ll have to seek the advice from Government of India and the health regulatory authorities before making any decision on the resumption of cricket.”
However, there are still speculations that, if the health situation improves, India could travel to the island nation in August or September.
It is understood that due to the international travel restrictions, the The Board of Control for Cricket in India wants to wait before making any decisions.
Earlier, India had chances of touring to South Africa in August for 3 T20 International matches, but now, even that seems doubtful. According to a BBCI official, “There is no clarity on any international travel now. It is important that we assess the circumstances and react accordingly.”
