How the club is shaping up for Big Bash League 2020-21 – Perth Scorchers

With the player contracting window for the Big Bash League 2020-21 clubs set to open in the coming weeks, we’ve laid out all the specifics of who your team has under lock and key and who might be exploring the open market.

Perth Scorchers

Big Bash League 2019-20 result: Sixth

Big Bash League 2020-21 squad so far:   Fawad Ahmed, Ashton Agar,  Cameron Green, Cameron Bancroft,  Josh Inglis, Jason Behrendorff, Mitchell Marsh, Aaron Hardie, Matthew Kelly, Jhye Richardson, Kurtis Patterson, Sam Whiteman, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye

Big Bash League 2019-20 squad members off contract: Liam Guthrie, Tim David, Chris Jordan (Eng), Nick Hobson, Jaron Morgan, Morne Morkel (SA), Liam Livingstone (Eng)

The Big Bash League’s most successful club, fresh off the two worst seasons in its short history, is also locked into the core of the group from last season.

The success of the Perth Scorchers in previous seasons largely rely on loyalty from Western Australian locals, combined with shrewd signings from overseas players. The WA-first approach has been a little relaxed since Justin Langer handed over the reigns of coaching to Adam Voges, expecting the team to  again rely more on internal improvement rather than on big-name recruits.

Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff, absent from all last season due to injury, will bring a breath of fresh air into the bowling stocks. Adding those two to an attack that, apart from Jhye Richardson and Fawad Ahmed, often struggled to contain opposing sides would be a huge boost.

Expect results that are significantly improved if the club can bring Liam Livingstone back or look for a similarly explosive top-order batter to replace him.
