Espanyol bets in full ethical debate on Betway
The club has started a week before the start of the season that the bookmaker Betway will wear it on the front of the shirt after the relegation caused the Chinese company LD Sports to terminate as Espanyol’s primary sponsor. The club hasn’t explained the agreement’s framework, though all will also depend on where Espanyol plays next season, as happened with the previous sponsor.
Espanyol isn’t the first bookmaker to sponsor. Who came to Espanyol in 2004 and supported the shirt from 2008, was one of the first sponsors when this type of business started to grow, which has nurtured a lot of money for football. Betway collaborates with other Spanish soccer teams, but since 2015 it has been West Ham’s main sponsor, a club to which it pays around € 7 million per season.
The amount in the parakeet club will be much lower considering the decrease in the entity’s impact on the player in the Second Division and without participating in Europe as if it happened the previous season. In addition to appearing on the shirt, Betway will have a presence at the perico club’s other premium media.
This announcement comes in the Government’s full debate about the suitability of betting houses sponsoring sports entities. In a recent interview in La Sexta, Consumption Minister Alberto Garzón commented that “It’s reckless and they’re making a radical mistake, and they’re going to have to correct it because the law is the law and we’re facing a huge problem.” Several media outlets, like El Confidencial, suggest a ban law could come out in October.
