Cricket Australia announces 2020 Big Bash League and WBBL full schedule
Cricket Australia revealed plans for a full T20 Big Bash League season beginning in December on Wednesday but admitted that the Covid-19 pandemic could impact the schedule.
The Big Bash League 10th edition will start on December 3 when the Adelaide Strikers host the Melbourne Renegades, followed by 60 matches around the country, and a final on February 6.
The ambitious fixture list, which follows the Women’s Big Bash League played from October 17 to November 29, ensures that Cricket Australia will meet its network obligations and will not face any penalties for reduced content.
Nevertheless, the plan could also face problems as Australia’s interstate travel is still limited following recent coronavirus outbreaks in Melbourne and Sydney.
Cricket Australia’s Big Bash leader Alistair Dobson said the league should follow public health recommendations and placed health policies in place to ensure public safety, players and staff support.
Many difficulties scheduling the league amid the coronavirus, some factors could affect the schedule later.
Australia A tours and Cricket Australia XI games are on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, the domestic Sheffield Shield and home international series are expected to begin, including a cash-spinning 4-Test series against India.
