Bangladesh ahead of West Indies & Afghanistan at the T20I Rating
Bangladesh is in the 8th place, in accordance with the new men’s Twenty20 international ranking, ahead of reigning World Champion West Indies and Afghanistan. The ICC revised the rankings in all three formats on Friday and according to its media statement, the most recent changes take into consideration all the matches played since May 2019 at 100 percent and the previous two years at 50 percent. In the T20I list, Bangladesh earned 4,583 points out of 20 matches and 229 points (won two more than the previous list). The Windies also scored 229 but played 24 games during this time, placing Bangladesh in a fractional lead.
The Afghans have lost five ranking points and are now in 10th place. In the meanwhile, Bangladesh lost five rating points in the Test ranking and earned 939 points out of 17 matches with a grade of 55. Afghanistan has more rating points (57) and is ahead of Bangladesh in the ranking displayed on the ICC website, according to the media report, the annual list will not include the Afghans and Ireland because these two recent test-playing nations have not carried out enough tests. So far, Afghanistan has only played three tests in two years, drawing against Ireland and Bangladesh, and losing to India.
By comparison, Bangladesh’s test success in 2019 was not at all good, losing twice to New Zealand, losing 224 runs to Afghanistan at home, and losing twice to India. The defeats to the Kiwis and the Indians come by an innings range. This year, too, has not been a successful year for Bangladesh in the Tests, as they have lost their series to Pakistan. In the ODI ranking, Bangladesh earned one point and finished in seventh place with 2,989 points out of 34 matches with a score of 88. Bangladesh is now ahead of Afghanistan (55), the West Indies (76) and Sri Lanka (85) in the top 10. Australia is No 1 in Tests and T20Is in the most recent ICC rankings, with India and Pakistan leapfrogging, respectively. The reigning world champion England remains at the peak of the ODI list. The Bangladesh Women’s Team is seventh in both the ODI and T20I rankings.
