BBL 2020-21: Melbourne Stars sign Billy Stanlake in a trade deal with Adelaide Strikers
Melbourne Stars have further improved their pace stocks for the upcoming Big Bash League 2020-21 (BBL) with the signing of the Adelaide Strikers’ towering quick Billy Stanlake. The deal will see the pace bowler Daniel Worrall transfer to Adelaide Strikers as an exchange.
Billy Stanlake has played 39 BBL games and so far has taken 34 wickets in the competition. Over the past few years, the 25-year-old has been part of Australia’s ODI and T20I squads, and currently he is in the UAE with his Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Stanlake told the media, “The Melbourne Stars have been a very successful club for a long time in the BBL. While they haven’t lifted the trophy yet, they’ve been a serious contender almost each season and I hope I can help to take that final step.”
He added that he is looking forward to meeting the guys later this year and getting stuck in what he sure is going to be a somewhat different campaign to usual but it’s going to be fun to get on with.
Melbourne Stars head coach David Hussey said that Billy Stanlake would bring a different dimension to the bowling unit.
David Hussey commented on the subject, “It’s never that nice as a batsman to have the ball coming down from that height at you and when Billy Stanlake is up in the 140km zone with a decent yorker and bouncer, he’s a very difficult bowler to contend with.”
He would also like to thank Dan Worrall for his contribution to the Stars for many seasons. He added that Dan Worrall has been a good performer for the Stars and they wish him well as he continues his Big Bash League career at home in Adelaide.”
The Big Bash League 2020-21 is set to start on 3rd December.
