IPL 2020: Complete guideline of SOPs
With the 13th season Indian Premier League ( IPL) taking place in the United Arab Emirates ( UAE) starting from 19th September, the Cricket Control Board in India ( BCCI) has increased its pace for the cash-rich league’s preparations.
The BCCI also recently held a meeting of the IPL Governing Council and discussed the standard operating procedures ( SOPs) for the upcoming cash-rich league season.
According to news agency PTI reports, the BCCI in its SOPs allowed players’ families to accompany them to UAE. The SOPs also call on IPL franchises not to restrict themselves to traditional dressing rooms to maintain social distancing.
Here’s a full list of SOPs evaluated by news agency PTI:
- Families of players and support staff can join the teams, but they will not be allowed to travel in the team bus and cannot leave the bio bubble.
- Teams will also be encouraged to use the stands for dressing room stands for the purpose of maintaining the social distancing.
- Bio-Secure Environment means that only essential personnel are on site and no members of the public will be allowed. There will then be more empty spaces at the stadium and thus the dressing room need not remain within the traditional area.
- If players and team support staff breach any of the Bio-Secure Environment protocol, they will be punishable under the Code of Conduct Rules of IPL.
- Team members must be allocated rooms in a separate hotel wing with a separate centralised air conditioning unit than the rest of the hotel.
- Players are also advised to order food to their room and avoid using common dining areas “to prevent cross-infection and contact with other guests of the hotel.”
- Venue Cricket Operation teams should consider using the suitable areas beyond the traditional dressing room.
- The BCCI also asked teams to use electronic team sheets instead of captains carrying hard copies of their playing XI lists.
- Scalene Hypercharge Corona Canon (Shycocan), a device capable of neutralizing 99.9% of the coronavirus that may float in the air in closed spaces, the SOPs indicated as reported by PTI.
- If the medical team needs to be in physical contact with the players (massage sessions etc.), they will have to wear PPE kits.
- The players and staff members must take a shower after the match.
