The BCCI on Friday called off Zimbabwe’s short tour of the Indian cricket team in August due to the COVID-19 pandemic threat.
The progress was on expected lines after Sri Lanka Cricket announced Thursday the indefinite postponement of India’s limited-overs tour in June-July.
The Indian Cricket Control Board (BCCI) announced on Friday that due to the current danger of COVID-19, the Indian Cricket Team would not travel to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Initially, Team India was scheduled to travel to the island nation for three ODIs and as many T20Is from 24 June 2020, and to Zimbabwe for a series comprising three ODIs from 22 August 2020. India has reported nearly three lakh cases of coronavirus with deaths of more than 8500.
The Indian team has yet to begin training, so it is unlikely that the camp will be held before July. It will take around six weeks for the players to be ready for the match.
Reiterating the Board’s position that only when it is safe to do so will it organize a training camp, the BCCI will only conduct a camp for its contracting players when it is entirely safe to train outdoors.
The BCCI is determined to take steps to resume international and domestic cricket. Still, it will not rush into any decision that would jeopardize the efforts of the central and state governments moreover several other respective agencies to contain coronavirus spread.
BCCI is tracking the situation of COVID-19 in the country on an ongoing basis and will call for the resumption of cricketing activities after consideration of all government guidelines.
