Moved by the plight of migrant workers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mohammed Shami, India pacer has started to distribute food packets and masks to refugees who are returning home.
Besides that, the 29-year-old pacer has also set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur, Uttar Pradesh, to help the poor migrants.
The BCCI posted a video of Shami, who is seen wearing a mask and gloves, distributing food packets and masks to people returning home by bus and those at the food distribution centres.
The BCCI wrote on Twitter, “As #IndiaFightsCorona, @MdShami11 comes forward to help people trying to reach home by distributing food packets & masks on National Highway No. 24 in Uttar Pradesh. He has also set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur.”
The Covid-19 pandemic enforced lockdown has caused a migrant movement crisis in the nation with lakhs of people trying to return home under extreme heat and hunger.
So far the Covid-19 outbreak has claimed more than 5000 lives and infected nearly two lakh people in the country.
