Pat Cummins said playing IPL helped his growth fast track as he bowled the last overs of a T20 inning, and it helped him grow and develop his game. Cummins became the most expensive international player in IPL auction 2019 as Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for a whopping INR 15.5 crore payout.
Cummins was in a position in previous IPL stints where he was bowling the last couple of overs in a situation where he could either win or lose the match, and that’s just a vast experience, it’s just really fast-tracking him.
Rahul Dravid is the coach for Cummins, Wasim Akram was a bowling coach at Kolkata when he played with Jacques Kallis. He gets to spend some time with great cricketers and get various views, while at the same time being placed in some circumstances of high pressure. He felt like he’d learned a lot in those six or seven weeks each time he played with those players.
The 27-year-old fast-bowler then spoke to the players about the importance of playing the league. He noted that the IPL 2020 was more crucial, as it led to the T20 World Cup.
As mentioned by Cummins, this year’s reason it IPL was so crucial for so many players was leading into a T20 World Cup, and even if that gets moved, at some stage, it will still be on. People are looking for what their cricket is best for and what they’re trying to get the most.
Australia is expected to host this year’s T20 World Cup in October-November but could be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. If the T20 World Cup is postponed, BCCI might also look to schedule an IPL in October-November. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, all international cricket has been suspended since March.
