In late 2004 MS Dhoni made his international cricket debut. It started a memorable journey from there for the wicketkeeper-batsman, who went on to become India’s most successful skipper ever. Dhoni gained fame with his power-hitting and slowly and steadily became a huge star with his unorthodox wicket-keeping skills. At the same time, the final nail in the coffin — in terms of universal recognition — came when he led India to all significant ICC titles during his captaincy tenure.

While it is a given that the 38-year-old Dhoni is considered one of the game’s most excellent readers and retains a confident, courageous approach as a leader and skilled strategist when he’s not playing, little is known about his whereabouts.

In 2004 MS Dhoni made his debut. In an Instagram chat with sports producer Rupha Ramani, he came across as quiet, holding himself kind of a personality, veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh revealed. Harbhajan Singh said that on overseas tours, MS Dhoni did not talk a lot or hang out with the rest of his teammates. After the controversial Sydney Test match in 2008, where Harbhajan was accused of using a racially abusive insult against Andrew Symonds, things changed.

Harbhajan said the controversial Test took everyone together in the team, and after that tour, MS Dhoni began to open up with the rest of his India teammates. The CSK off-spinner said it was a group of five, including Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, and Ashish Nehra, who used to hang out on overseas tours together.

MS Dhoni has always been a quiet person and, despite becoming the captain within three years of his international debut, he was quite shy in his early days with the team.  The off-spinner said Dhoni as a captain provides each bowler or batsman with the appropriate room, and this is something that everyone should learn from him.

After a break of more than eight months, Dhoni, who longed to return to competitive cricket, was about to make a comeback with IPL 2020. Even the cash-rich league postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, there were quite a few debates about his future. With an eye on the World T20 as head coach, Ravi Shastri had previously mentioned that the IPL would determine if Dhoni will be a part of the showpiece event squad.

T20 World Cup 2020 is expected to play in between October-November window, but the tournament is likely to be suspended or canceled due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
