South Africa’s top cricketer Solo Nqweni tested positive for Covid-19
South Africa top cricketer, the 25-year-old all-rounder Solo Nqweni has tested positive for the Covid-19. He has been fighting Guillain-Barre Syndrome since last July and undergoes treatment in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Nqweni is the third cricketer who has tested positive for Covid-19 after Zafar Sarfraz from Pakistan and Majid Haq from Scotland.
According to Nqweni’s twitter statement, “I’ve had GBS last year and I’ve been fighting with this disease for the previous 10 months and I’m just halfway through my recovery. I’ve had TB, my liver and my kidney has failed. Today, I’ve been tested positive. I don’t apprehend why all of this is happening to me.”
Nqweni was in an induced coma last year for four weeks, and the Covid-19 diagnosis is the latest in a long line of his health concerns.
In 2012, Nqweni played for South Africa’s under-19s and was contracted to the Eastern Province, and also played for the Warriors’ franchise cricket.
According to Herald Live, the former Grey High star, who plays as a pro at Aberdeenshire Cricket Club, is in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s intensive care unit.
