[IPL]- Gautam Gambhir shared why IPL is essential for India’s current crisis.
India has been under lockdown for more than a month due to the Covid-19 crisis that has devastated the globe. The cases of coronavirus increasing all over the world, the lockdown has extended for the third time until 17 May.
The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to the suspension or cancelation of almost every sporting event worldwide. IPL 2020 has also put on hold for an unspecified period given the current situation in the nation, and a thin thread suspends the fate of the cash-rich tournament with India’s crisis worsening.
Gautam Gambhir, a cricketer turned politician, said not all IPLs are going to win or lose. A tournament like the IPL will uplift the country’s mood in a crisis. In India, over 39,000 positive cases have been reported for the novel coronavirus, claiming more than 10,000 lives, the crisis continues to grow anxious, and as a safety measure, the lockdown has been extended further for two weeks.
People now experience negativity constantly, and the IPL will help improve the atmosphere. Gambhir claims the IPL franchise will look at this tournament to change the nation’s mood.
The IPL began operations in 2008. Since then, every year till 2019, the IPL was adequately organized in the same fixed window. Also expected to be held in the usual window was the IPL 2020, but coronavirus has forced a scheduling change. Gambhir thinks the IPL 13 would be the most unique even though, for safety reasons, it will run without the fans, overseas players, etc.
